Our service is highly automated and provides speedy and accurate results so that you are not left waiting for weeks to get the answer you need. Plus, we offer a money-back guarantee* if we cannot locate your debtor so that you can purchase with confidence, knowing that your money will only be spent on results.

What is a Debtor?

A debtor is someone that owes money for a product, service or anything else that has a monetary value. When someone becomes a debtor, they make an agreement to pay what’s owed on a certain date or via a repayment plan. Unfortunately, there are occasions when a debtor stops or refuses to pay off their debt, leaving you, the creditor, to chase them for payment.

There are occasions where there is a dispute over amounts owed or repayment terms, but these can be ironed out with good communication and access to up to date details. However, if your debtor fails to pay and is no longer contactable through the address and contact details they initially provided, then you will need to trace them in order to pursue a claim.

Why Can’t I Pursue a Claim Without Up to Date Details?

In the UK, creditors have to prove that they have made genuine efforts to communicate with debtors about bad debt. The courts will not accept correspondence sent to the wrong address as a genuine effort, and so the onus is on you to locate the debtor.

Once you have located the debtor, you can send registered correspondence to prove to the court that the debtor has received your reminders and continued to ignore them. It is at this point that the court can then enforce action so that you can recover the monies owed.

How Do You Find Debtors?

To find debtors, we use recent activity data from Credit Agency searches to locate an up to date address. This initial step is fully automated and uses a wide range of financial information so that there are no errors and no missed information. The other key benefit of using an automated system is that it is fast so that your debtor is unable to skip out on their current address in order to avoid paying.

Once this stage is complete, we then use desktop research undertaken by experienced investigators to pinpoint exact addresses and other contact information so that you can be certain that the results we produce are accurate. We are incredibly proud of our team, who provide an unparalleled level of accuracy when it comes to finding the information you need.

What If DebtTrace Cannot Find Someone?

There are very limited occasions when DebtTrace is unable to find someone who owes you money. If this happens to you, we will refund you in full. We ask for seven days to complete our search and exhaust every avenue before we refund you, but we will keep you informed every step of the way so that you are not left in the dark.

The main reasons we find that it is not possible to locate someone is when they do not put their new bills in their name at their new address, when they do not update details with their financial institution when they do not apply for credit with their new details and more.

When is the Best Time to Complete a Debtor Search?

If your debtor has recently moved home without passing on a forwarding address, then we recommend waiting for at least four weeks before you ask us to perform a search. Doing this will ensure that the address you receive will be the new address rather than the one they have just moved from.

How Can I Use the Information You Find for Me?

Once you have got the most up to date contact details for your debtor, then you can use them to communicate with them about owed debts and progress their non-payment through the right court channels to get a judgement made against them.

What Packages Do DebtTrace Offer?

When you choose to use DebtTrace, you can opt to select a range of packages to get the information you need. Our most commonly purchased debtor tracing packages include:
